Aïllant an archaeological find

Aïllant is an archaeological project that attracts us as much as the fire of our kiln.

Over the last few months we have let ourselves be carried along a path of study, trials, successes and mistakes that have brought us to this place.

Aïllant N.01

An archaeological find

*******

This object is an obsession apparently shared by some people like us. How can we not fall in love with the meticulous work of gatherers, collectors, enthusiasts from all over the world who store and share hundreds of specimens?

Wanting to do our bit, we bring to light what is our Aïllant N.01, an insulator reinterpreted as a hook and knob. An object that has obsessed us since its conception until today and we hope that some crazy fan of the future will find them and, like us, fall in love.

Aïllant, or the fired clay as an electrical insulator. Its manufacture began in the 19th century with the development of the telegraph.

After long hours observing this world, it seems to us that, in addition to the duty of fulfilling their task, potters also imbued these objects with their artistic whims. The way they carve their names, the tiny stamps, the hundreds of different enamels and colours… How can there be so much diversity in an object as apparently aseptic as an electrical insulator?

Special thanks to all lovers and collectors of these marvellous objects.
