About Us
Estudio Vernís is a workshop that celebrates craft and the unexpectedness of wood-firing. Every piece is made individually, by hand, in our studio in Castell de Castells.
Raw, lasting, and ever-evolving ceramics, designed to be functional and honest.
The studio was founded in the mountains of Alicante in 2019 by Alejandra Martínez and Coke Ballester. With a background in architecture, we left the city to reconnect with form and material, grounding ourselves through the practice of shaping and firing clay.
We aspire to a world where every object contains the traces of the hands that made it. That is why our fingerprints are in every step of the process, leaving a mark in a lasting and natural material, using primitive techniques and local resources.
The pieces that result form this are a labor of re-learning from the material and from the process, to allow it to set the pace and decide the result.

Our Craft
The artisanal process provides every piece with its own peculiarities that make them unique.
We shape our pieces mainly by pinching clay between our fingers, combining this with slab-building and coiling to form all our shapes.
We believe imperfections are the hallmark of human-made objects, and we're proud to create them.
Our glazes contain ashes from woodfiring,
making the woods an everlasting part of each piece.

woodfiring
The heat, ash, and the unpredictability of the flames work together to create surfaces and textures that feel alive, shaped by nature.
Unlike modern firing methods, wood firing embraces imperfection and spontaneity, making every piece a reflection of the journey it underwent in the kiln.
The result is work that is both raw and refined, with no two pieces ever the same.
Firing with wood is a process that blends
effort and craftsmanship,
transforming raw materials into a lasting object.
